Diamond Color Guide

The evaluation of diamond color is actually based on the absence of color. A chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond has no hue, like a drop of pure water, and consequently, a higher value.

The D-Z Scale

The GIA color grading system is the industry standard. It scales from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown).

  • Colorless (D-F): The highest quality color grades. D is absolutely colorless.
  • Near Colorless (G-J): Color is often unnoticeable except by trained graders. An excellent value.
  • Faint (K-M): Displays a faint tint of yellow.

At Ratnakar, we generally recommend staying within the D-J range to ensure your diamond faces up white in its setting.
